How We Teach Jazz

At The School, jazz is taught as both a technical and expressive dance discipline. Students learn that strong performance begins with strong foundations. Classes are designed to help dancers understand their bodies, listen to music, build coordination and move with clarity and intention.

Our instructors use a progressive approach that balances technique, conditioning, flexibility, choreography and performance development. Students are challenged in a supportive way and encouraged to take healthy risks, practise consistently and celebrate effort.

Our mission is to develop good people through the arts. In jazz class, students practise the values of Commitment, Compassion, Respect and Responsibility while developing healthy collaboration, focused perseverance and positive communication.

BATD Jazz Syllabus & Examinations

Our jazz program is supported by the British Association of Teachers of Dancing syllabus. BATD syllabus work gives students structure, consistency and a clear technical pathway as they progress.

Syllabus-based training helps dancers understand what they are working toward. Students build vocabulary, coordination, strength, performance quality and musical understanding through progressive classwork.

BATD jazz examinations may be available for eligible students when recommended by the instructor. Exams are optional and are offered when a student is prepared, confident and ready for the experience.
