A different kind of competitive dance experience.
At The School, TEAM is designed for dancers who are ready for more challenge, more commitment, and more opportunity — without losing sight of who they are as children first.
In an educator-led program, safety is not a side note. It is built into every warm-up, correction, rehearsal, costume choice, and message dancers receive about themselves.
Choose safety. Choose growth. Choose care.

What is TEAM?
TEAM Competitive
For dancers ready for a fuller competitive experience, stronger technical goals, additional routine preparation, and a higher level of weekly commitment.
TEAM Development
For dancers ready for more structure, training, performance experience, and team commitment, but who would benefit from a more gradual pathway.
Competitions
Dancers in both pathways attend competitions. In Development, competitions are used as a learning experience to build confidence, responsibility, and performance readiness.
Growth
Competition is an extension of training — not the purpose of it. Our focus is age-appropriate, technically sound dance education and long-term development.
New for Fall
TEAM Development Stream
The new TEAM Development Stream is part of our competitive program. Development dancers will train, perform, and attend competitions.
This pathway is designed for dancers who show potential and are ready for more, but who would benefit from a slower, more supported entry into competitive training.
In the past, dancers generally needed to be training in at least two disciplines to be considered for TEAM. The Development Stream allows us to recognize readiness earlier and support dancers as they build confidence, consistency, foundations, and class habits.
Our Approach
Child First
We consider readiness, confidence, learning style, physical development, emotional maturity, and long-term growth.
Process Over Product
Competitions matter, but effort, resilience, teamwork, artistry, confidence, and technical understanding matter too.
Thoughtful Progression
A dancer may be capable of a skill before it is the right time to perform it. We focus on safe and meaningful progress.
High Standards With Care
TEAM dancers are challenged to be committed, focused, respectful, and prepared while still being supported as children first.
All of these are valid pathways. The goal is not to move quickly — the goal is to grow well.
What We Are Looking For
Auditions are not about finding the “perfect” dancer. They help us understand which pathway, if any, is the most supportive next step for each child.
- Focus and willingness to learn
- Ability to take direction
- Positive attitude and effort
- Confidence or readiness to build confidence
- Technical potential and body awareness
- Commitment, consistency, and curiosity
- Respect for teachers, peers, and the learning process
Who is Eligible?
To be considered for TEAM, dancers should:
- Have at least 1 full year of dance experience
- Be turning 6 years old during this calendar year
- Have performed on stage at least once in a dance routine
- Be ready to explore more structure, training, and commitment
Please Note
Auditions are required for all dancers interested in joining TEAM next season, including current TEAM members.

Competitive Dance, The School Way
The School’s founders, Lindsay Duncan and Krystal Ferguson, are former dancers who believe strongly in child-first education. TEAM is designed to challenge dancers while protecting their confidence, development, and love of dance.
Dancers First
We prepare dancers to become dancers — not just competitors. Training is rooted in technique, artistry, confidence, discipline, and long-term growth.
Childhood Matters
At The School, dancers are children until they are 19. We choose music, choreography, expectations, and events with age and development in mind.
Costumes With Care
TEAM dancers do not wear midriff-bearing costumes. Costumes are age-appropriate, and tights are required for all dancers on stage.
Music With Care
Age-appropriate music is about more than removing swear words. We consider subject matter, tone, message, and what we are asking children to perform.
Clear Training Path
We use a dedicated BATD syllabus to support progressive, thoughtful technical training with clear learning goals.
Healthy Culture
We support dancers of all genders and work to keep our studio positive, professional, respectful, and toxicity-free.
