Parent & Child and Preschool Classes

A gentle, welcoming first step into movement, music, creativity, confidence, and classroom independence. At The School, dance education is education — children are learning how to listen, try, share space, express ideas, build confidence, and feel safe in a group.

The values you teach at home should continue where you send your child.

Preschool dance is not just about learning steps. It is where many children practise being part of a group, waiting for a turn, trying something new, using kind words, recovering from frustration, and feeling proud of themselves.

Our approach is warm, respectful, and developmentally thoughtful. We understand that young children have big feelings, different separation timelines, and different ways of joining in. We meet children where they are while gently helping them grow.

Educated, caring teachers: Classes are led by trained teachers who understand child development, movement education, and the importance of emotional safety.
Safety matters: Our team includes teachers with CPR-C training, and staff complete Vulnerable Sector Checks.
Parents are part of the process: We know drop-off, independence, and new routines can be emotional. We support both the child and the grown-up.
Summer sessions are available now!

Looking for a shorter, flexible way to try a class? We also offer summer sessions for Parent & Child and Preschool ages. These are a wonderful way to keep moving, build confidence, and experience The School before the full season begins. Summer is the best fit for families looking for more flexibility or drop-in style options.

How Our Sessions Work

Our Parent & Child and Preschool classes are offered in shorter sessions so families can begin with a manageable commitment while children build comfort, confidence, and routine.

These classes are developmentally sequenced using DiscoverDance™, which means each week is part of a larger learning path — not just a stand-alone activity.

Why staying for the full session matters:
Young children need repetition and consistency to truly benefit from class. It often takes 4–6 classes to complete a DiscoverDance™ level or concept cycle, because children are learning much more than steps. They are building listening skills, coordination, musicality, social confidence, independence, and class routines.

Short, focused sessions Each session gives your child time to settle in, repeat skills, and experience progress without the pressure of a full-year commitment.
Consistency helps confidence Children often participate more fully once the class structure feels familiar. Regular attendance helps them feel safe and successful.
Developmentally sequenced Skills are introduced, repeated, expanded, and celebrated across the session so children can build real foundations.
A gentle first step Sessions are a wonderful way to try The School before moving into Pre-Primary or full-season classes.

We know life with little ones is busy, and the occasional missed class happens. Whenever possible, we recommend committing to the full session so your child can experience the complete learning arc.

Drop-in style options are mainly used for summer programming, when families often need more flexibility.

A more structured class for children who are ready for longer skill sequences, early technique foundations, creative activities, and a little more independence and focus.

Best for: children with some class experience or who are ready for the next step.

What we practise in class goes far beyond dance steps.

We believe early childhood classes should feel safe, kind, purposeful, and joyful. Children are not rushed into performance; they are guided through age-appropriate learning that supports the whole child.

Kindness and compassion We model gentle language, patience, helping, and care for others.
Respect and boundaries Children learn to share space, listen to their bodies, and respect the bodies and choices of others.
Confidence through consistency Routines, repetition, and encouragement help children feel secure enough to try.
Responsibility in small ways We practise cleaning up, waiting for turns, following class routines, and caring for our classroom.
Effort over perfection We celebrate trying, growing, listening, and participating — not just “getting it right.”
Education through movement Music, coordination, rhythm, imagination, social skills, and emotional development all live inside the class.
