Tap Classes in Mississauga
At The School Creative Arts Education, our tap program helps students develop rhythm, musicality, coordination, timing, confidence and performance quality through a structured and joyful approach to dance. Located in Port Credit, Mississauga, we offer tap classes for children and teens in a positive learning environment where students are encouraged to listen carefully, move clearly and make music with their feet.
Tap is a unique dance form because dancers are both movers and musicians. Students learn how to create clear sounds, understand rhythm patterns, coordinate upper and lower body movement, and perform with confidence and expression.
Our tap classes use the BATD syllabus, giving students a strong technical framework and a progressive pathway for growth. Examinations are available for eligible students when recommended by the instructor.
Why Families Choose Our Tap Program
How We Teach Tap
At The School, tap is taught as both a dance style and a musical discipline. Students learn that every sound matters. Clear timing, controlled weight changes, strong posture and careful listening all help dancers create clean and confident tap work.
Our classes are structured, encouraging and developmentally appropriate. Students build skills through repetition, rhythm games, technical exercises, combinations and choreography. They learn to listen to the music, listen to one another and understand how their sounds fit into the class as a whole.
Our mission is to develop good people through the arts. In tap class, students practise the values of Commitment, Compassion, Respect and Responsibility while developing healthy collaboration, focused perseverance and positive communication.

Our tap program follows the British Association of Teachers of Dancing syllabus. The BATD is a long-established dance teaching and examination organization, and its syllabus gives students a clear framework for technical progression.
Syllabus-based training helps students understand what they are working toward. It provides structure, consistency and a sense of accomplishment as students progress through their training.
BATD tap examinations are available for eligible students when recommended by the instructor. Exams are optional and are offered when a student is prepared, confident and ready for the experience. The goal is not pressure. The goal is growth, focus, pride and a deeper understanding of tap technique.

Tap develops a different kind of discipline. Students must learn to listen closely, count accurately, wait their turn, practise slowly and repeat patterns until the sound is clear. These habits build patience, focus and perseverance.
Because tap creates sound, students also learn responsibility within the group. They begin to understand how their choices affect the rhythm, timing and energy of the class. This makes tap a powerful way to develop teamwork, musical awareness and confidence.
Safety & Healthy Development
Safety in tap begins with age-appropriate expectations, proper footwear, safe flooring and careful progression. Students are taught to use their feet, ankles, knees and hips with control so they can produce strong sounds without unnecessary tension.
Our instructors emphasize posture, alignment, balance, controlled weight transfer and safe repetition. Students are not rushed into complex rhythms or advanced steps before they have the strength, coordination and understanding needed to perform them well.
